It is my personal belief that no one comes to the earth empty. No one arrives devoid of purpose, skill or power. To every person God has given talents, abilities and gifts sufficient to accomplish the assignment for which they were sent.
Consider what the word purpose actually means. Purpose is the reason a thing exists: the intended function, the objective, the end for which it was made. Purpose is not something a person invents. It is a reflection of the wisdom of the creator and a manifestation of his will. A thing does not decide what it is for. The one who made it does.
Scripture speaks plainly here. The Lord said to Jeremiah:
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.
Jeremiah 1:5
Notice the order. The knowing comes before the forming. The setting apart comes before the birth. Although these words were spoken to one prophet, they open a window for all of us. Life does not begin merely with our biological formation. Our purpose exists in God before we arrive here in the flesh.
King David arrives at the same conclusion from a different direction:
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:13-14
And then this: all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Written before one of them came to be. Your days were authored before they were lived. That is not fatalism. It is assurance. It means you are not an accident of circumstance, and the gifts you carry were not handed out at random.
So the question is not whether you have a purpose. You do. The question is whether you have begun to discover it, and whether you are using what God placed in you to fulfill it.
You did not come here empty. Live as though you believe it.
If this stirred something in you, we would love to meet you. Plan your visit and join us on a Sunday.
